rhize platform

Rhize is a real-time
event-driven
manufacturing data hub

A first-of-its-kind platform that allows companies to create an ISA-95 standardized, application-ready data model of an entire manufacturing operation.

built for

Manufacturing engineers, operators and teams working in complex, highly regulated industries, such as pharmaceuticals, heavy industry and luxury goods.

Designed to simplify the management of manufacturing processes.

The project faced significant technical challenges that required a deep understanding of the problems and innovative solutions. Through continuous collaboration and feedback, the team navigated these complexities, ensuring that the final design met both user needs and international standards.

Defining Objectives

After analyzing the research findings, clear objectives were set. Key goals included creating a section to control and label all factory devices across multiple stations, connecting them with other machines and operators in the same facility. These objectives aimed to simplify complex workflows and improve coordination between different machines and users.

Solving Complex Technical Challenges

Collaborative Workshops

Workshops were conducted on-site both nationally and internationally, including in Australia and the UK. These workshops brought together team members from different departments who work on the product, encouraging collaboration and socialization. By sharing progress and feedback in person, the teams were able to better align their goals and improve the product's development.

This approach to UX follows key design thinking principles: user research to define the problem, collaborative ideation through workshops, and iterative prototyping to solve technical challenges.
This process ensures that both the user experience and technical requirements are met effectively.

Insight

Continuous feedback integration

To continuously enhance the Rhize platform, we regularly gathered feedback through Useberry and conducted Google Meet sessions.

This iterative approach ensured that user input was effectively integrated, driving ongoing improvements and refinement of the platform.

Wireframes and Navigation Design

During the user experience research, wireframes were created to map out the complex navigation system. The goal was to ensure clear information hierarchy, following international manufacturing standards while keeping in mind the need for users to act quickly and efficiently.

Building a Design System

After approval of the wireframes, a brand-specific Design System was developed. This system not only supported the platform but was also intended for use across all future products of the brand, ensuring consistency and scalability.

Redesigning v2 to v3

Redesign approach

We rebuilt the UI from scratch, using the UX insights gathered to ensure the new design addressed key user needs and pain points.

Previous version

Version 2 of the UI had been developed by another team and was already in place when we began the redesign process.

Version 3 launch

The newly designed Version 3 was optimized for better performance, usability, and alignment with the project’s updated requirements.

Thoughtful Color Palette

The mobile app enhances user experience with barcode scanning for test entry.

A light-toned UI was chosen, featuring a primary palette of green to align with the brand concept. It also included a secondary palette of warm grays and complementary colors that adhered to ISO standards, ensuring compliance and usability across various settings.

Modern Yet Functional UI

The UI design aimed for a modern yet serious look, versatile enough for both low-resolution factory screens and office monitors. Special attention was given to creating a user interface that worked well in dark factory environments, balancing functionality and aesthetics.
